Terms of Use
The plain limits on what this website is, and is not
Using this site
machamerelectric.com is published by Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC, a Virginia professional limited liability company (marketing name: Machamer Electric, PLLC). By using the site you accept these terms; if you do not, please do not use it. These terms took effect on 1 September 2026 and may be updated here; the date in this paragraph is the version that applies.
No professional relationship, no engineering advice
Reading this site, asking Relay a question, running the planning-estimate wizard, or sending a form does not make you a client and does not create an engineer–client or any other professional relationship. Nothing on the site is engineering advice for your installation: no conductor, device or piece of equipment is selected, no code requirement is applied to your project, and nothing here may be built to. Engineering begins with a defined scope of work agreed in writing with Steven C. Machamer, P.E.
Relay and the planning estimate are unofficial
Relay is an automated assistant, not a person. Its answers, and every figure the planning-estimate wizard produces, are unofficial and non-binding: planning-level ranges for a typical project of that kind, computed from a reviewed cost model without anyone having examined your site. They are not a quote, a proposal or a commitment, and you must not rely on them as one. A proposal with a defined scope, a fixed fee and a schedule is issued only in writing, after the project has been discussed. Accepting an outline sends it to the engineer and commits neither side to anything.
Emergencies
If there is an unsafe electrical condition right now, this site is the wrong tool. Contact a licensed electrician or your utility immediately, and emergency services if anyone is in danger.
Licensure
S. C. Machamer, P.E. holds individual Professional Engineer (Electrical) licensure in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington. Sealed engineering is not offered outside them; a project elsewhere is handled, if at all, by teaming with an engineer licensed there. The firm, Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC, is registered to practice engineering in Virginia (DPOR business entity registration 0407009046). Its registration in the other four states is not yet in place, so a project there begins with a conversation. Nothing on this site is an offer to practise engineering in any jurisdiction where the required licensure or firm registration is not held.
Educational content
The Insights articles are educational. They are not engineering advice for your installation and not legal advice; practice acts and codes change, and the authority having jurisdiction decides how they apply to a specific project.
No offer of securities
Nothing on this website is an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any security, in any jurisdiction. Any securities of Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC are offered only through a disclosure document, only to the persons and in the places that document permits, and only while an offering is open. Website content is not part of any such document unless that document expressly says so.
Acceptable use
You may use the site to learn about the practice and to contact the engineer. You may not use the forms, the chat or the estimate endpoints to send unsolicited commercial messages, to probe or overload the service, to submit material you have no right to share, or to extract the cost model by automated means. Automated access other than ordinary search-engine crawling is not permitted.
Intellectual property
The site's text, graphics, logos and code are the property of Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view and print pages for your own evaluation and may download the capability statement for that purpose; any other reproduction needs written permission. Trademarks of third parties (for example NAVFAC, NASA and Cloudflare) belong to their owners and are used only to describe experience or services.
The client portal
portal.machamerelectric.com is a separate service for clients of Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC under a written engagement, available by invitation. A design set posted to the portal is delivered to the client when it is posted. Each set carries its standing: a preliminary set is for review only and may not be built to; an issued set is what the engagement calls for; a set marked sealed carries the engineer's verified digital signature. An earlier revision stays available, labelled superseded. You are responsible for the people you ask us to give access to and for keeping the email account used to sign in secure; every sign-in and download is recorded to the project file. The engagement agreement governs the work itself; these terms govern the use of the portal as a website, and the privacy notice describes what it stores. The portal can be used in English or Spanish; the documents, the proposal, the acceptance statement and the agreement are in English, which governs. Where "Ask about this project" is offered, its answers are produced by an automated search over the documents posted to the project and are not engineering advice; the issued documents govern, and a question asked there is not a request for information to the engineer.
Documents you send through the portal are received when the portal issues a transmittal number; until then they have not been delivered to the engineer. The engineer's review of a submittal is for general conformance with the design intent only and does not relieve the contractor of responsibility for dimensions, quantities, means and methods, or coordination with other trades; a submittal returned "revise and resubmit" or "rejected" may not be built to. A project drop link is for the contractor or vendor it was created for: whoever holds the link can send documents to that one project, and nothing else, until it expires or is reset, so treat it as you would a project mailbox. Sending a document, a comment or a request for information through the portal does not by itself change the scope, fee or schedule of the engagement.
Electronic signature of proposals. A proposal from Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC may be sent to one named person at your organization for signature in the portal. Signing means ticking the box and typing your name under the acceptance statement shown with the proposal; that typed name is your electronic signature under the Virginia Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (Va. Code § 59.1-479 et seq.) and the federal E-SIGN Act (15 U.S.C. § 7001), and you agree that the agreement and its records are kept in electronic form. The agreement is binding when the engineer countersigns; until then either side may decline or withdraw. What was signed is the proposal PDF identified by its SHA-256 fingerprint together with the statement, the time, the connection's address and browser and the countersignature, all recorded in the portal's audit log; the executed agreement record is posted for both parties and a copy is emailed. You may ask for a paper copy at any time, and you may decline to sign electronically and sign on paper instead. The signer represents that they are authorized to bind the organization named.
Third-party services
The site runs on Cloudflare and sends mail through Microsoft 365; the forms use Cloudflare Turnstile. Those services are governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for their availability. Links to other sites are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Machamer Electric Consultant, LLC and its member are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages, or for any decision made in reliance on the site, Relay or the planning estimate. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or any obligation under a written engagement agreement, which governs its own subject matter.
Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from the site or these terms is brought exclusively in the state or federal courts sitting in Newport News, Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
